ROBERT & MARY CAREY SPOTLIGHT: BURLINGTON, VT

ROBERT & MARY CAREY SPOTLIGHT: BURLINGTON, VT

As we present you with another “Destination Spotlight” from our popular series in our nationally syndicated travel radio show, this edition focuses on Burlington, Vermont. Located in the 14th State in our nation and known as the Green Mountain State — Burlington is the largest city in Vermont on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain. It sits between the Adirondack and Green Mountains which dominate the spectacular views and landscape of this area. If you haven’t visited, it’s an outdoor-centric town with many options for travellers.

A fun fact well known to locals, who are proud of it, as many people believe some of the best U.S. sunset views occur in the Lake Champlain area. And if you find yourself questioning this — just take a look at the abundance of photos online and you’ll quickly see what we mean. Writers and photographers have been coming to this area of Vermont for years not for the maple syrup (well they come for that too) but to take in the sunsets and stunning scenery. In short, when you visit, plan some time into your day to enjoy the natural spectacle of the sunsets in this area of Vermont.

Many visitors associate Vermont with skiing and of course, Burlington is no exception but it’s also the fly fishing capital of New England. Spring, summer and fall are wonderful times to visit and enjoy the abundance of hiking, cycling and water sports available. Waterfront Park in Burlington was named by American writer, Ernest Hemingway, as the most ‘beautiful ferry crossing in North America.’ Here you’ll view the lake, and the stunning Adirondacks, and there are many boat tour options available to visitors, including private sailing tours and chartered fishing tours.

The popular open air market area of Church Street Marketplace is in the heart of downtown Burlington and fills a four block stretch. Street performers, dozens of eateries and more than 100 shops line the cobble stone street of the Marketplace and is a must when visiting Burlington.

Another fun fact that may surprise visitors is the variety and quality of the restaurants. Everything from cafes, breweries, speakeasies, al fresco dining, and eclectic food carts to fine dining all await you in Burlington.

If you’re visiting for a few days, just seven miles from downtown Burlington is Shelburne Farms, a non-profit 1,400-acre working farm, forest and National Historic Landmark. You can experience cheese making in the warmer months, hike, and enjoy the Museum which houses a vast collection of Americana and folk art.

RMWorldTravel’s “Destination Spotlight” series is designed to feature lesser-known locations across the USA that we’ve personally experienced, and believe are worthy of your travel dollars. Burlington certainly fits this criteria, as it’s a charming, eclectic and wonderful town with much to offer within it and in the surrounding area. Go enjoy it, and when you do be sure to drop us a note at RMWorldTravel.com and share your experiences with us.

Safe and Happy Travels!
