We publish both numbers. The case dimensions (the packing body only) are 73.6 x 52.07 x 31.75 cm (29 x 20.5 x 12.5 in.). The overall dimensions, which include wheels and carry handles, are 78.7 x 53.3 x 33.02 cm (31 x 21 x 13 in.). When airlines publish size limits they mean the overall size, so compare the overall number to your airline's limit.

How big is this bag in linear dimensions, and will I owe oversize fees?

Linear dimensions are height + width + depth added together. This bag measures 157.5 cm (62 linear inches) by case dimensions and 165 cm (65 linear inches) including wheels and handles. The standard checked-bag limit on most airlines is 158 cm (62 linear inches). This bag runs over that number by the tape measure, so oversize fees may apply. How do I clean and care for it?

Use a 50/50 mixture of alcohol and water, apply with a soft cloth, and gently rub the affected area until the spot lifts. Let the bag air dry completely before storing. A little lemon juice in the mixture freshens the fabric. More care tips are in our customer FAQ.

"We now have 5 of these Maxlite bags in different sizes - this one large one has been the only one to have any issues. We bought this before a major international trip (multiple months, multiple cities), and within the first week of traveling, (a) one of the zippers broke, and (b) worse - one of the wheels stopped working properly and keeps getting stuck going in the wrong direction from the rest of the wheels. This second issue made it VERY difficult to move our bag around on the uneven sidewalks and streets in almost every city we've visited (cobblestones, large uneven stones, etc. ). A huge bummer for such a big cost."

Maybe not Travelpro's fault but

"Maybe not Travelpro's fault but this suitcase is way too big. I admit I should have looked more carefully at the measurements but it was way bigger than I imagined. You cannot fill the suitcase and have it be under the 50 pound limit. Also I bought the pink which was a bad choice since after one trip it is basically brown. Don't make my mistake! Buy the regular size! IMO they shouldn't even sell this size because I don't know what context it would be useful for."

I have been a die

"I have been a die hard fan of Travelpro luggage until now. Because I travel frequently people often ask what luggage I recommend. I tell them Travelpro will not let you down. Unfortunately I had to replace my previous large checked bag after 10 years because the broken telescopic handle could not be replaced. Mind you that same luggage traveled to over 30 countries with no damage via bus, train, plane, car, pick up truck and cruiseliner. So I purchased another one. To my disappoint this luggage is already damaged on its first trip and I haven't returned home yet. I'm praying it makes it back to the US with no further damage"

LOVE my Maxlite 5 Large

"LOVE my Maxlite 5 Large Check-in Spinner. The wheels are smooth on all surfaces despite being single wheel compared to my other luggage with double wheel. Easy to maneuver despite being over 25kg. The limited edition color is beautiful and because it's dark, the stains (sadly on first use) are not that visible but still visible. It's quite spacious and so light. The large is quite large and can hold a lot. I'm inspired to get the medium for more frequent travels."
