Opens will standing up and with side fasteners nothing falls out. Amazingly easy to maneuver with its spinner wheels. Zippers work well on all pockets. I did remove the piece of padding that would protect a laptop as I do not travel with one and the padding just used up space. Fits all overhead compartments to planes that I have traveled on.
